GVP News!

Announcing, Genesee Valley Psychology (GVP) coming to the Rochester area!

Hello!

I cannot express how exciting it is to be writing this blog. It is March, and I am counting down the months (3.5) until GVP officially opens its doors.

My name is Dr. Lauren Wadsworth, and I was born and raised in Geneseo, New York. I left the farm and pursued my undergraduate degree (majoring in Psychology and Studio Art) at Smith College, followed by graduate school at the University of Massachusetts Boston to obtain my PhD in Clinical Psychology, then McLean Hospital/Harvard Medical School where I completed my internship and postdoctoral fellowship. The whole time I’ve been away, I’ve been dreaming of and planning my return to the area.

If there’s one thing I continue to be in awe about, it is the limited access to evidence-based treatments for people suffering from OCD and other severe anxiety disorders. There are a few Rochester based clinicians offering evidence-based treatment, but they report being full. Thus, I’ve been planning to open an anxiety/OCD clinic in the Rochester area, accessible by all major highways, so more folks living in rural towns or neighboring cities can access the care. We will have a strong training model, allowing us to grow quickly, help more people, and offer services at a variety of fees.

In July, the dream will become a reality. We are excited to announce that we will be starting out in the beautiful new Spot Cowork location, allowing our clients to access the amazing amenities and environment of these modern co-op settings. We will start by offering individual and group therapy in private spaces, and aim to quickly expand to offer low-fee services and training opportunities.

For each step GVP takes to grow, we plan to take one step to increase the accessibility of our treatments to the community. Thus, we will soon announce low-fee/free community-based groups for substance and trauma, and community-based support groups for OCD.

This is just a start, there is so much more to share, and even more to come, stay tuned- we look forward to serving you soon!
