Renée Riggs, PsyD

Training: Dr. Riggs is a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Genesee Valley Institute of Psychology specializing in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). Dr. Riggs earned her Doctorate Degree in Clinical Psychology at the California Professional School of psychology at Alliant International University, San Diego. Dr. Riggs completed her pre-doctoral internship at Tiffany Griffiths Psy.D. & Associates in Old Forge Pennsylvania.

Clinical Expertise: Dr. Riggs has had the opportunity to work with a variety of children, adolescents and adults with diverse backgrounds. Dr. Riggs has a generalist training with a particular focus in the treatment of trauma related disorders and substance use disorders. Dr. Riggs draws from various evidence-based treatment frameworks including dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), interpersonal processing therapy (IPT) and mindfulness-based interventions.

 Diversity and inclusion:  Dr. Riggs aims to provide a compassionate and culturally responsive environment for clients of all backgrounds and intersecting identities. She strives to provide a safe and empowering space for client’s and values exploration of how socio-cultural identities and individual contexts impact the therapeutic process.

Approach: Dr. Riggs aims to foster an empowering alliance and support client’s deepening their understanding of themselves and their relationships. Dr. Riggs utilizes a trauma-informed, narrative approach to psychotherapy that is self-directive and collaborative. Dr. Riggs’s approach guides clients in building value-based, purposeful goals, processing traumatic experiences and moving away from self-defeating patterns.
