Training: Dr. Madeline August earned her degree in Clinical Psychology at The New School for Social Research in New York City. Dr. August completed her predoctoral internship at the Jesse Brown VA Medical Center and her postdoctoral fellowship in Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) at the Road Home Program at Rush University Medical Center.
Clinical Expertise: Dr. August has a generalist training with particular focus in using evidence-based therapies to treat Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and Substance Use Disorders. Dr. August is trained in a variety of therapeutic modalities including Brief Relational Therapy, Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Emotion Focused Therapy, and Harm Reduction.
Dr. August provides Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) and Psychodynamic therapy in the Trauma Services arm of GVP, CBT for anxiety and depression, and Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) for Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD).
Approach: Dr. August strives to create a collaborative environment in the therapy office, where emotional concerns are approached through respect, compassion and an integration of treatment perspectives. Her research specializes in therapeutic ruptures, therapist self-reflection and the patient-therapist relationship.
