Abbie Giordano, MHC

Training: Abbie earned her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from St. Bonaventure University and her Master of Science in Mental Health Counseling from St. John Fisher University in Rochester, NY. She completed her clinical internship at Trillium Health, where she gained experience working with diverse clients across a range of outpatient mental health needs. Abbie has additional training in Indigenous Psychotherapy and Anti-Racism, which informs her commitment to culturally responsive, trauma-informed, and inclusive clinical care. She also has experience providing outpatient mental health treatment to adolescents and adults in structured clinical settings.

Clinical Expertise: Abbie has experience working with adolescents and adults navigating emotional dysregulation, anxiety, depression, trauma, and life transitions. She works especially well with individuals who feel overwhelmed by their emotions or as though their internal experiences are difficult to manage or understand. In these moments, she supports clients in building insight, emotional awareness, and practical coping strategies to increase a sense of stability and control. Abbie integrates evidence-based approaches including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), with an emphasis on care that meets clients where they are.

Approach to Treatment: Abbie brings a warm, collaborative, and nonjudgmental approach to therapy. She believes emotions are meaningful and important, while also supporting clients in learning that emotions do not have to dictate behavior. Her work focuses on helping clients identify personal values and take intentional steps toward the life they want to build, even in the presence of difficult thoughts and feelings. A central part of her approach is helping clients develop a stronger sense of self so they can show up more fully in their relationships and daily lives.

Diversity & Inclusion: Abbie is committed to providing affirming and culturally responsive care that honors each client’s identity and lived experience. She recognizes the impact of systemic and cultural factors on mental health and approaches treatment with cultural humility, curiosity, and respect. She strives to create a therapeutic environment where clients feel safe, understood, and supported in bringing their full selves into the space.

Ages: Abbie primarily works with adolescents and adults. When appropriate, she supports clients in strengthening communication and connection within their families and other important relationships.
